Description

Solubility decides where an active can live in a formula, and IO Daily Skin Care Active Liquid has a very clear profile: it dissolves in water and stays out of oils and alcohols. That makes it a water-phase ingredient for serums, gels and emulsions, with a wide pH window that gives the formulator room to choose a base.

Product data

Liquid. Soluble in water, insoluble in alcohols and oils. PH range 2.8 to 8. The card does not list applications or origin. The exact INCI, composition and recommended level are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot, and the CoA is the reference for the label.

What the solubility means in practice

Because it does not dissolve in oil, the active must be added to the water phase of an emulsion, never to the hot oil blend. Because it does not dissolve in alcohol, it is a poor fit for toners or sprays with a high ethanol share; keep the alcohol low or skip it. Glycols such as propanediol and glycerin are usually fine as co-solvents in the water phase, but confirm clarity in a small test.

Product formats

Water serum

A clear or slightly hazy serum with simple humectants.

Gel

A fresh gel for oily and combination skin.

Daily cream

An oil-in-water cream with the active in the water phase.

Toner

A low-alcohol or alcohol-free toner.

Formulating guidance

Add the active during cool-down into the water phase and confirm the finished pH. The wide window from 2.8 to 8 allows a slightly acidic skin-friendly target. Build the base with low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and glycerin for hydration, D-Panthenol for comfort and niacinamide for an even-tone story. Other water-phase ingredients are listed under actives.

Claims

Base claims on the supplier documentation and on tests of the finished product. Without data, keep wording to feel, hydration and appearance.

Who the products are for

Light water-based products with this active suit customers who prefer fluid textures and minimal routines, and those with combination skin who find creams too heavy in summer.

Compatibility screening

Before scale-up, mix the active with each key ingredient and store the samples at 40 °C for two weeks. Haze, color change or sediment point to an incompatibility that is easier to solve at the bench than in production.

Sensory design

Water serums are judged by slip and finish. A small amount of a light polymer gives cushion, while too much glycerin leaves tack. Compare three variations on the back of the hand before fixing the base.

Testing

Run stability at room temperature, 40 °C and under light, checking pH, viscosity, clarity and odor.

Packaging

Glass droppers for serums, airless pumps for creams, fine-mist bottles for toners.

Labeling

List the INCI from the CoA. An is not an ingredient name.

Range planning

Start with one serum and one cream. Once stability data and customer feedback are in, a toner can complete the routine.

Original recipe: daily water serum, 100 g

Purified water 86.40 g, glycerin 3.00 g, propanediol 3.00 g, IO Daily Skin Care Active Liquid 3.00 g as an example level per CoA, panthenol 1.50 g, sodium hyaluronate 0.20 g, xanthan gum 0.30 g, allantoin 0.20 g, preservative 1.00 g, citric acid solution 1.40 g. Disperse xanthan and hyaluronate in the glycols, add water and hydrate. Add panthenol and allantoin, then the active below 40 °C and the preservative. Adjust pH to about 5.5.

Batch quality

Record the lot number from the CoA, check appearance and pH on arrival and keep a retained sample of each lot. If a new lot looks or smells different from the previous one, compare both in a small test batch before releasing production. This habit protects the consistency that repeat customers notice first.

Preservation

Water-rich serums and gels need a robust preservative system. Choose one that works at your final pH and confirm it with a challenge test on the finished product.

Storage

Store the container closed in a cool place away from light.
