Description
Liposomes are among the oldest and best-understood delivery systems in cosmetics. These tiny spheres of phospholipids can carry actives in a water-dispersible form and add a smooth, conditioning feel. Caffeine Liposomal combines this classic carrier with one of the most popular energizing actives in skin and scalp care.
Liposomes in brief
Phospholipids, the main building blocks of cell membranes, naturally form closed spheres in water. These spheres can enclose water-soluble actives such as caffeine. In a formula, liposomes help distribute the active evenly and leave a soft feel. The exact INCI, phospholipid type and caffeine content are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot.
Specifications from the supplier specification
Liquid, water-soluble, pH 5.0 to 7.0. Applications: face serums, eye contour products, creams and gels; body-contouring creams, body shaping gels, body products; thicker-looking hair serums, scalp tonics, shampoos; professional ampoule concentrates, device-assisted care, intensive programs.
Choosing between caffeine formats
Our catalog offers several caffeine options: Caffeine Encapsulated Complex, this liposomal format and liquid oil-soluble caffeine for oil-based products. Choose the liposomal format for water-based leave-on products where a conditioning feel and even distribution are welcome.
Product formats
Eye contour serum
A light serum with a roller-ball applicator for a fresher-looking eye area.
Body-contouring cream
A cream for massage on areas of concern, positioned for smoother-looking, firmer-looking skin.
Thicker-looking hair serum
A scalp serum used daily for fuller-looking hair and an energizing feel.
Formulating guidance
Add the liposomes at cool-down, below about 35 to 40 °C, with gentle mixing. Avoid high shear, strong surfactants and high alcohol levels in leave-on products, which can disrupt the vesicles. In shampoos, the liposomes support the range story rather than their encapsulated form. Keep the finished pH within 5.0 to 7.0. More encapsulated actives are under actives.
Claims
Use visual and sensory wording: fresher, less puffy-looking eyes; smoother, toned-looking skin; fuller-looking hair and an invigorated scalp. Base claims on tests of the finished product and avoid shape-change promises.
Who buys it
Customers with tired-looking eyes, those preparing for summer and those concerned with thin-looking hair. Liposomes add a technical story that some customers appreciate.
Packaging
Roller balls and metal tips for eye products, tubes for body creams, droppers or sprays for scalp serums.
Testing
Check stability at room temperature and 40 °C, and avoid freezing during shipping. Monitor appearance for creaming or separation.
Range planning
A caffeine line with an eye serum, a body cream and a scalp serum offers three different uses of one familiar ingredient.
Liposome handling tips
Liposome dispersions are sensitive to temperature extremes. Keep the raw material away from freezing and heat during storage and shipping, mix gently and add it near the end of the process. If a batch must be pumped through a homogenizer, add the liposomes after that step. A quick microscope check of a diluted sample can confirm that the vesicles remain intact after processing.
