Description
Milk Peptide Complex Liposomes at a glance
Milk Peptide Complex Liposomes is a liposome suspension that carries whey protein peptides from milk. The peptides are enclosed in vesicles made of phospholipids, and the vesicles are dispersed in an aqueous buffer. The INCI is Phospholipids, Whey Protein (Lactis Proteinum), with water as the buffer solution. The material is white to ivory, has a mild characteristic odor and a pH of 6.0 to 7.0. It comes from Germany and is used at 4% of the finished product, in firming creams, appearance-focused cosmetic creams, toners and lotions.
Milk peptides in skin care
Whey is the liquid part of milk that remains after cheese making. It is rich in proteins and peptides, small chains of amino acids that bind water and form a soft, conditioning film on skin. Milk ingredients have a long history in beauty, from milk baths to cleansing milks, and consumers associate them with softness and comfort. In this complex, the peptides support skin that looks firmer, smoother and more elastic, which is the main message the supplier gives for the material.
Why liposomes
Liposomes are tiny spheres built from phospholipids, the same type of lipid that forms cell membranes. They can carry water-soluble ingredients in their core and are known for their skin-friendly, light feel. Encapsulating the milk peptides in liposomes protects them in the formula and gives them a carrier that blends well with the skin's own lipids. For the consumer, liposomes are a well known technology word that adds value on the pack.
How to formulate
Addition and mixing
Add the suspension during cool-down, below about 40 °C, and stir gently. Liposomes are delicate vesicles. High shear homogenizers, strong surfactants at high levels and high amounts of ethanol or other solvents can break them, so add the complex after any homogenization step.
pH and preservation
The suspension has a pH of 6.0 to 7.0. Aim for a finished product pH of about 5 to 7.
Partners
Milk peptides combine well with hydration and firmness actives. A firming cream can add hydrolyzed collagen for a richer protein profile and elastin for an elasticity message. More peptides and liposomal actives are grouped in our peptides section.
Product ideas
Firming day creams, night creams for mature skin, milk toners, body lotions with a firming message, neck creams and hand creams are the classic uses. The milk story also suits gentle cleansing milks and comfort creams for dry skin.
Sample recipe: milk peptide firming lotion, 100 g
Distilled water 76.80 g, glycerin 3.00 g, glyceryl stearate citrate 3.00 g, cetearyl alcohol 2.00 g, caprylic/capric triglyceride 6.00 g, squalane 3.00 g, xanthan gum 0.20 g, Milk Peptide Complex Liposomes 4.00 g, preservative 1.00 g, fragrance 0.20 g, citric acid solution 0.80 g. Heat water and oil phases to 75 °C, emulsify, cool to below 40 °C under slow stirring, add the liposomes, preservative and fragrance, and adjust to about pH 6.
Labeling note
Because the complex contains milk protein, brands that target vegan consumers should choose a plant peptide instead. For everyone else, milk is a clear, familiar and attractive story on the pack.
Getting the most from liposomes
A few simple steps help keep the vesicles intact. Prepare the emulsion completely, including any homogenization, and only then add the liposomes under slow stirring. Avoid adding them to a product that still contains a high level of free surfactant, and keep alcohol low. If the formula is a toner, use a mild solubilizer at a low level. Store the finished product away from heat, and check its look and feel after four weeks at 40 °C to confirm that the texture remains smooth.
Storage
Store tightly closed in a cool, dark place and protect from freezing. A certificate of analysis comes with every lot.
