Biotive L-Arginine, the branded grade

Biotive L-Arginine is the manufacturer grade of the amino acid L-Arginine produced by Evonik for personal care. The supplier specification sells that original raw material: a white crystalline powder with the INCI Arginine, supplied in the manufacturer form with the certificate of analysis for each lot. The smallest pack is 10 g.

When the branded grade makes sense

L-Arginine itself is a well-known molecule, so the main reason to choose the Biotive grade is documentation. Brands selling into natural or vegan channels, or working from an approved supplier list, often have to name the manufacturer, and some product stories use the branded name. If the brief only asks for the amino acid, the IO L-Arginine Powder carries the same INCI under our own name at a lower price.

What arginine does in a product

L-Arginine is one of the amino acids found in the skin's natural moisturizing factor, which makes it a good fit for moisture-focused creams, lotions and hair care. It is also a base: a solution of the powder sits at around pH 10.5 to 12. That property is useful for neutralizing carbomer gels, for adjusting the pH of acidic actives and for pairing with fatty acids in cleansing and conditioning products. In shampoos and conditioners it supports softer, easier-to-comb hair.

Handling the powder

Dissolve it in the water phase at room temperature or with mild warming; it goes into solution readily. When you use it to neutralize carbomer, add the arginine solution gradually and check the pH as you go, because a small amount moves the pH quickly.
