Description

Belides at a glance

Belides is a brightening extract of the common daisy, Bellis perennis, from France. Its INCI is Bellis Perennis (Daisy) Flower Extract. It is an amber liquid with a characteristic odor that dissolves in water, alcohol and glycerin. The supplier recommends adding it to the finished emulsion while it cools. Use levels range from 2 to 5% depending on the product, with a clear dose table for each type of brightening care.

The daisy as a brightener

The small white daisy that grows in lawns across Europe has a long tradition in plant care. In modern cosmetics the flower extract has become a natural option for brightening. Products with Belides help dark spots look lighter and smaller, give the complexion a more even, more luminous look and support a fresher appearance. For brands that want a plant based brightening story, daisy is easy to explain and pleasant to put on a label.

The supplier's dose table

The supplier gives specific levels for each use. Local care for dark spots, such as a spot pen or a concentrated spot serum, uses 5%. Serums for intensive brightening use 4%. Tone evening creams and cleansing products use 2 to 3%. Foaming cleansers for skin and hair use 3 to 4%. This table makes it easy to build a coordinated brightening line, from cleanser to spot care.

How to formulate

Addition point

Add Belides to the emulsion at cool-down, below 40 °C, or to the water phase of a gel or serum at the end. It dissolves in water, alcohol and glycerin, so it also suits toners with a little alcohol.

pH and color

Keep the finished product at a skin friendly pH of about 5 to 6. The amber color gives a light shade to clear products, which is normal for a flower extract.

Partners

A complete brightening routine often combines several actives. Niacinamide suits a daily cream, and alpha-arbutin adds a second tone evening action in serums. Find more brightening ingredients in the cosmetic actives section.

Product ideas

Spot correcting serums and pens, brightening serums, tone evening day creams, hand creams for the look of age spots, brightening cleansing gels, foaming face cleansers and brightening masks are the main concepts.

Sample recipe: daisy brightening serum, 100 g

Distilled water 83.20 g, Belides 4.00 g, niacinamide 4.00 g, glycerin 3.00 g, propanediol 3.00 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.80 g, preservative 1.00 g, panthenol 0.50 g, citric acid solution 0.50 g. Dissolve niacinamide in the water, disperse the cellulose, add glycerin, propanediol and panthenol, add Belides at the end with the preservative, and adjust to about pH 5.5.

Cleansers with a brightening message

It is unusual for a brightener to have a dose for rinse-off products, but the supplier lists 2 to 4% for cleansing and foaming cleansers. A daily cleanser with Belides is a simple first step in a brightening routine and adds a natural flower story to the line.

Odor and fragrance

The extract has a characteristic plant odor. At 2 to 3% it is mild and easy to cover. At 4 to 5% in a spot serum, choose a fresh fragrance or a light floral note that fits the daisy story. Always smell the finished product after a week, because plant notes can develop with time.

Testing claims

Spot fading is slow, so plan tests over eight to twelve weeks. Standard photos under the same light, colorimeter readings of chosen spots and a self assessment questionnaire together give a clear picture of the change.

After-sun care advice

Brightening results build over weeks. Recommend daily, because sun exposure makes dark spots look darker again.

Storage

Store in a cool, dark place in a tightly closed container. A certificate of analysis comes with every lot.
