Description
Algaktiv LightSKN at a glance
Algaktiv LightSKN is a marine biotechnology active from Spain. Its INCI is Aqua, Propanediol, Water Extract of Kappaphycus Alvarezii. Kappaphycus alvarezii is a red seaweed grown in warm tropical waters. The active is a viscous liquid with a green to dark green color, water-soluble, with a pH of 4.5 to 6.5. It is made for one modern need: helping skin defend itself against digital stress and city pollution.
Skin in the digital city
Many people spend most of the day in front of screens and in urban air. Screens emit high energy visible light, often called blue light, and city air carries fine particles and exhaust. Both add oxidative stress to the skin. The visible result is a tired, dull, uneven looking complexion. Brands now answer this with digital defense and urban shield products, and Algaktiv LightSKN is designed for exactly that category.
What the supplier describes
The active contains marine bioactive compounds and antioxidants. It is positioned for anti blue light and anti pollution care, city skin care and modern wellness beauty. It is used in glow care and tone improving formulas, in anti-fatigue care for tired and stressed looking skin and in microbiome friendly and hydration systems. The supplier also notes good compatibility with peptides, ceramides and fermented actives.
Dosing by product
Serums use 1 to 3%. Creams and emulsions use 1 to 5%. Toners and essences use 0.5 to 2%. Masks use 1 to 5%. Hair care uses 0.5 to 2%, for example in leave-in products with an urban protection message.
How to formulate
Add the liquid to the water phase at cool-down. Its green color can tint clear products slightly, so check the shade at the planned dose. Keep the finished product between pH 4.5 and 6.5. For a complete digital defense serum, add ectoin for protection against environmental stress and ceramide NP for the barrier. More antioxidant actives are listed in the cosmetic actives section.
Product ideas
Blue light defense serums, urban shield day creams, glow essences, anti-fatigue eye gels, screen time face mists, pollution defense masks and leave-in hair mists are the main concepts.
Sample recipe: digital defense serum, 100 g
Distilled water 87.20 g, Algaktiv LightSKN 3.00 g, glycerin 3.00 g, propanediol 3.00 g, ectoin 0.50 g, xanthan gum 0.30 g, sodium hyaluronate 0.20 g, panthenol 1.00 g, preservative 0.80 g, citric acid solution 1.00 g. Disperse xanthan gum and sodium hyaluronate in glycerin, add the water and stir until smooth, add the other ingredients and adjust to about pH 5.5.
Claims
Speak of skin that looks less tired and more radiant, a fresher look after screen time and help against the visible effects of urban stress.
Working with peptides and ceramides
The supplier notes that the active combines well with peptides, ceramides and fermented actives. This makes it a good base for layered concepts: a morning serum with Algaktiv LightSKN and an antioxidant for daytime defense, and an evening cream with ceramides and peptides for leave-on cosmetic formulas of the look of tired skin. A fermented essence can add a microbiome friendly message to the same line.
Hair care
In hair care at 0.5 to 2%, the extract fits leave-in mists and light conditioners with a city protection message. Add it to the water phase at the end of the process and keep the pH in the same 4.5 to 6.5 range as for skin care.
Testing claims
Blue light defense claims can be supported with in vitro tests on skin cells exposed to visible light, and consumer claims with radiance and fatigue questionnaires after two to four weeks of use in screen heavy daily routines.
Storage
Store in a dry, cool room in a tightly closed container, protected from light. A certificate of analysis comes with every lot.
