Description

This ingredient at a glance

IO Active Delivery Powder is a powder that does not dissolve in oils, silicones or water but mixes with all three. The card gives a working pH range of 4.5 to 6.7 and lists cosmetics designed for intensive action and better delivery of active substances, creams, sunscreens and self-tanning products. Breitband is the German word for broadband, which hints at a system meant to work across a wide range. The card gives no composition details, so check the INCI name, recommended level and processing notes on the supplier data sheet and CoA.

Delivery systems in skin care

Many actives struggle to stay on the skin surface long enough or to spread evenly. Delivery systems such as particles, liposomes and carriers help them do that. A system that mixes with oils, silicones and water is especially flexible, because it can be used in almost any type of formula. Keep claims about delivery cosmetic and supported by supplier data.

Product formats

Creams

Add it to day and night creams together with the actives it should support.

Sunscreens

The card lists sunscreens. SPF always depends on tested filters.

Self-tanning products

Self-tan lotions and mousses are listed. Even application is key in self-tanning, and a good carrier can help.

Intensive care

Serums and concentrates for intensive care are a natural fit.

Processing

Mix the powder into the phase recommended by the supplier with good stirring. Because it does not dissolve, make sure it is evenly dispersed and check for clumps. Keep the final pH between 4.5 and 6.7.

Good partners

Water-soluble and oil-soluble actives can both be paired with it. IO Antioxidant Active Powder suits sun care, and Hydroxyectoin adds a protective story. Browse more in the actives catalog.

Testing

Check the dispersion under a microscope and look for settling after storage. For self-tanners, test color evenness on skin after several hours.

Claims

Keep delivery claims cosmetic and supported by supplier data: helps actives spread evenly; intensive care.

Original recipe: even self-tan lotion, 100 g

Distilled water 73.30 g, glycerin 3.00 g, dihydroxyacetone 5.00 g, xanthan gum 0.20 g, glyceryl stearate citrate 3.50 g, cetearyl alcohol 1.50 g, caprylic capric triglyceride 8.00 g, IO Active Delivery Powder 1.00 g, tocopherol 0.50 g, sodium benzoate 0.50 g, potassium sorbate 0.10 g, sodium metabisulfite 0.10 g, citric acid 0.30 g, fragrance 3.00 g. Emulsify the heated phases, cool below 40 °C, add dihydroxyacetone dissolved in a little water, IO Active Delivery Powder and the remaining ingredients, then adjust the pH to about 4.5 to 5.

Self-tanning tips

Dihydroxyacetone, the classic tanning active, prefers a mildly acidic pH and dislikes heat and metal ions. Add it at cool-down, keep the pH low and use plastic tools. The pH window of this ingredient overlaps well with these needs.

Range ideas

A self-tan lotion, a gradual-tan cream and an SPF day cream can share the same carrier.

Lot records

Keep each CoA with the batch file and note the lot used.

Working with insoluble powders

A powder that does not dissolve must stay evenly suspended in the finished product. Use a thickener or a structured emulsion to keep it from settling, and stir the batch well before filling. Shake tests and long-term storage tell you if the dispersion stays stable.

Storage

Store closed in a dry place. Close the container after use.
