Description
Redensyl from the original manufacturer
Redensyl is the trade name Givaudan uses for a scalp-care complex built on two plant polyphenols, a dihydroquercetin glucoside from larch wood and an epigallocatechin gallate glucoside from green tea, together with glycine and zinc in a water and glycerin base: about 1.0% DHQG, 0.05% EGCG2, 1.0% glycine and 0.5% zinc. The supplier specification is that original raw material in the manufacturer composition, with the certificate of analysis for each lot. It belongs to our cosmetic actives range.
Branded grade or own-name grade
A shampoo, serum or tonic that prints Redensyl on the label needs the branded raw material, and many retailers and contract manufacturers ask for the original supplier documents before they accept it. Where the brief describes only a scalp complex for denser-looking hair, the IO Hair Density Complex Liquid is our own-name grade at a lower price. Making this choice early keeps the artwork, the claim file and the raw material record aligned.
How the complex is used
The polyphenol, amino acid and zinc combination is used in scalp care aimed at denser-looking, fuller-looking hair and a scalp that looks and feels balanced. Leave-on serums and tonics give the longest contact with the scalp; rinse-off shampoos are a common second product in a routine. Keep finished-product claims cosmetic and avoid quoting manufacturer study figures as promises to consumers.
Adding it to a formula
The complex is water-soluble. Add it to the active phase below 50 °C, or post-add it to a cooled emulsion, foam base or shampoo, and stir until uniform. The manufacturer use level is 1.0 to 3.0% of the finished formula, and the pH range is 3.0 to 5.0, so mildly acidic scalp products suit it best. The polyphenols prefer protection from light and from strong oxidizers, so opaque or amber packaging is a good habit.
Compatibility and texture
The complex mixes with caffeine, niacinamide, panthenol, scalp peptides from our peptide range, glycols and light alcohol bases. In shampoos add it after the surfactant blend has been thickened. Metal ions from hard water can darken polyphenols over time, so a chelator such as sodium gluconate is useful.
Appearance and specification
The material is a clear amber liquid with a mild plant odor, soluble in water. The INCI is Aqua, Glycerin, Sodium Metabisulfite, Glycine, Larix Europaea Wood Extract, Zinc Chloride, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract; the lot number and release data are on the certificate that ships with each order, and that certificate is what links your batch to the original manufacturer lot. Expect small color shifts between lots, which are normal for natural polyphenols.
Product formats and routines
The complex appears most often in leave-on scalp serums applied with a dropper, in spray tonics and in overnight scalp masks, which keep it in contact with the scalp for hours. A matching shampoo and conditioner can carry it as well to complete a routine. Brands that make both a serum and a shampoo usually set the higher level in the serum. Because it is water-based and light, it does not weigh hair down, which matters for users with fine hair. Spray tonics benefit from a small amount of solubilizer and alcohol for quick drying, while serums can use a light cellulose gel for control.
Recipe: overnight scalp serum, 100 g
Water 84.2 g, Redensyl liquid 3 g (3.0%, the top of the 1.0 to 3.0% range), propanediol 4 g, glycerin 2 g, niacinamide 2 g, panthenol 1 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.6 g, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil 0.5 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1 g, sodium gluconate 0.2 g, citric acid solution (10%) 1.5 g. Hydrate the cellulose in water, dissolve niacinamide, panthenol and gluconate, add glycerin and propanediol, then the solubilizer, the Redensyl liquid and the preservative at room temperature. Adjust pH to about 4.5.
Storage
Store tightly closed, cool and away from light, and use within the shelf life on the certificate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the original Redensyl?
Yes. It is the branded Givaudan material in its original composition, shipped with the lot certificate of analysis.
How does it differ from the IO Hair Density Complex Liquid?
The IO card is our own INCI-named scalp complex. This listing is the branded original for briefs and labels that name Redensyl.
Will it color a clear tonic?
It can give a faint amber tint. That is normal for the polyphenol content.
