Description

This ingredient at a glance

It lists age-defying creams, serums and lotions. The full INCI name and active content should be confirmed on the supplier CoA.

A slightly acidic window

The pH range of 4.0 to 6.0 matches most face creams and serums, which usually sit in the mildly acidic range close to the skin's own pH. Keep the base in this window and avoid alkaline ingredients that would push the pH above 6.

Product formats

Age-defying creams

Day and night creams.

Serums

Light water-based serums.

Lotions

Fluid emulsions for face and neck.

Processing

Add the concentrate to the water phase during cool-down, below about 40 °C, and avoid prolonged heat. Check the pH and adjust it to 4.0 to 6.0.

Good partners

Citrus bioflavonoids extract powder suits a citrus story. palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 adds a peptide, and Adenosine supports wrinkle-care products. Browse more in the actives catalog.

Testing

Run stability tests at several temperatures and measure skin smoothness over several weeks for claims.

Claims

Age-defying care; skin looks smoother and more radiant with regular use. Base specific claims on supplier data.

Form: slightly viscous water-soluble liquid. INCI: water, glycerin, Citrus aurantium dulcis callus culture extract, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate, gluconolactone, calcium gluconate. Use level: 2 to 4%. PH: 4.0 to 6.0 on the card; stable from 3 to 8 per supplier. Listed uses: age-defying creams, serums, lotions.

Original recipe: radiance serum lotion, 100 g

Distilled water 78.50 g, glycerin 4.00 g, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Callus Culture Extract Liquid 3.00 g, caprylic capric triglyceride 5.00 g, squalane 3.00 g, polyglyceryl-6 stearate blend 2.50 g, xanthan gum 0.30 g, niacinamide 2.00 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1.00 g, citric acid 0.20 g, sodium citrate 0.30 g, fragrance 0.20 g. Disperse xanthan in glycerin, add to water with niacinamide, emulsify the oils, cool, add Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Callus Culture Extract Liquid, preservative and fragrance and adjust the pH to about 5. Adjust Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Callus Culture Extract Liquid level to the CoA.

Fragrance

Keep it subtle in face products and avoid photosensitizing citrus oils in leave-on products for daytime use.

Building a range

A serum, a day cream and an eye lotion can share the active for a coherent age-defying line.

Directions for users

Suggest using the products morning and evening after cleansing, with sunscreen during the day.

Record keeping

Note the concentrate lot, the final pH and the scent of each batch.

Lot records

Keep each CoA with the batch file and note the lot used.

Avoiding pH drift

Some plant concentrates shift the pH slightly over time. Buffer the formula with citric acid and sodium citrate, store a sample at 40 °C for a month and measure again. If the pH drifts out of 4.0 to 6.0, increase the buffer slightly.

Sensory check

Ask testers to rate absorption, scent and skin feel right after application and again after ten minutes. Light serum lotions should absorb quickly and leave no tack.

Preservation

Run a challenge test on the finished lotion before launch.

Packaging

Airless pumps and opaque bottles protect plant-based actives from air and light. For serum lotions, a pump gives a clean, measured dose and keeps fingers out of the product, which helps the preservative system.

Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.

Storage

Store closed as the CoA directs. Close the container after use.
