Description

Magnesium citrate at a glance

Magnesium citrate is a powder that dissolves slowly in cold water and well in hot water. The supplier specification gives a pH range of 5.0 to 8.0. It is the magnesium salt of citric acid. In cosmetics it brings a mineral story to creams, lotions, hair care, masks, cleansers and decorative products. Confirm the grade and hydration form on the supplier CoA.

Minerals in personal care

Magnesium is a popular mineral in bath salts, body care and mineral-themed skin care. Its citrate form dissolves more easily than many other magnesium salts, which makes it practical in water-based products. It is often combined with zinc, calcium and other minerals in a mineral complex.

Processing

Dissolve the powder in warm water and add it to the water phase. Salts can affect emulsion stability and the viscosity of thickeners, so add it before the thickener or test carefully. Check the final pH and keep it within 5.0 to 8.0.

Good partners

Magnesium bisglycinate is another magnesium form. Pure magnesium oil suits body sprays, and Zinc oxide pharma completes a mineral line. Browse more in the actives catalog.

Testing

Check emulsion stability, viscosity and pH over time, since salts can thin some gels and creams.

Claims

Mineral-enriched care; skin and hair feel refreshed and cared for.

Original recipe: mineral body lotion, 100 g

Distilled water 72.70 g, magnesium citrate 1.00 g, glycerin 4.00 g, sunflower oil 8.00 g, squalane 3.00 g, glyceryl stearate citrate 4.50 g, cetearyl alcohol 2.00 g, xanthan gum 0.30 g, panthenol 1.50 g, aloe vera juice 1.00 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1.00 g, tocopherol 0.50 g, fragrance 0.50 g. Dissolve magnesium citrate in the hot water phase, emulsify with the hot oil phase, cool and add the remaining ingredients.

Salt tolerance

Many thickeners, such as carbomer, lose viscosity when salts are present. Xanthan gum and some cellulose thickeners are more tolerant. Choose the thickener with this in mind and test early.

Mineral bath products

Magnesium salts are a classic part of bath soaks and foot baths. Combine magnesium citrate with sea salt and essential oils for a relaxing bath story.

Lab tip

Use warm water and patience; the powder dissolves much faster with heat and stirring.

Batch consistency

Check the clarity of a test solution for each new lot.

Lot records

Keep each CoA with the batch file and note the lot used.

Positioning

Magnesium is popular in wellness and relaxation products. Present magnesium citrate as part of a calming evening routine or a mineral care line, and keep the message simple and honest. Pair it with lavender or chamomile scents for a relaxing story.

Hair care

In shampoos and conditioners, mineral salts can also influence viscosity, so adjust salt and thickener levels together when adding magnesium citrate.

Fragrance

Choose soft herbal notes to match a calm mineral story.

Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.

Storage

Store closed in a dry place. Close the container after use.
