Lipexel, luffa seed oil for dry skin

Lipexel is an oil-soluble cosmetic active made in France from the seed oil of Luffa cylindrica, the plant better known for its fibrous sponge, carried in ethylhexyl palmitate. The INCI is Ethylhexyl Palmitate (and) Luffa Cylindrica Seed Oil. It goes into the oil phase of an emulsion or into an anhydrous base. The smallest pack is 10 g.

A protective, moisturizing lipid

The supplier describes Lipexel as a lipid that helps skin cope with the drying effect of sun, wind, frost and indoor heating. It supports hydration of the upper layers and leaves a healthy looking, comfortable surface, and regular use is linked with skin that looks smoother and more supple. Two use ranges

Shaving gels and after-shave products use 1 to 3%. Moisturizing care for mature or dry skin uses 1 to 5%. Day creams for skin over 35 sit comfortably in the middle of that range, while rich night creams and winter balms can go to the top.

Formats

Day creams, rich moisturizers, face masks and body creams for dry areas are the core, with a light oil phase keeping the texture elegant. Tanning creams and after-sun lotions use it to keep skin comfortable after sun exposure. Shaving gels and after-shave balms benefit from its softening feel, and creamy cleansers can include it to limit the tight feel after washing.

Processing and partners

Add Lipexel to the oil phase and heat it with the other lipids, or stir it into an anhydrous balm. Pair it with squalane oil for a light, silky feel and with the vitamin E complex to protect the oil phase. Super Sterol Liquid adds a skin-like emollient.
