Description
Hyaluronic acid is usually associated with face serums, but it has a growing role in hair care, where its moisture-binding, film-forming behavior helps hair feel softer and look glossier. IO Hyaluronic Acid Biopolymer Liquid is a liquid hyaluronic acid biopolymer whose card puts hair care first and skin care second, with men's grooming as a third field.
Product data
Liquid, water-soluble, pH 4.0 to 7.5. Applications: hair care (shampoos, conditioners, hair masks, hair sprays, leave-in products), skin care (moisturizing serums, creams, gels, toners, post-cleansing care), professional salon hair care and conditioning systems, premium skin care and men's care (shampoos, beard care, scalp care). The exact INCI, polymer type and recommended level are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot.
Hyaluronic acid in hair care
On the hair fiber, a hyaluronic film helps retain moisture, adds slip and contributes to shine. In curly and textured hair, which tends to feel dry, it supports definition and softness. In fine hair, light leave-in sprays with hyaluronic acid add moisture without the weight of oils.
Hair product formats
Moisture shampoo
A mild shampoo that leaves hair feeling soft rather than stripped.
Leave-in spray
A light spray for daily use on damp or dry hair.
Mask
A conditioning mask with the biopolymer and a cationic emulsifier for deep moisture.
Skin and men's care
Serums, gels and toners for moisture; beard balms and beard oils with a water phase for softer beard hair; scalp tonics for a comfortable scalp under a beard or short haircut.
Formulating guidance
Add the biopolymer during cool-down into the water phase. Keep the finished pH within 4.0 to 7.5. In shampoos, check viscosity, since hyaluronic polymers may interact with salt-thickened surfactant systems. In conditioners, check compatibility with cationic ingredients. For a skin care partner with a different molecular weight, consider low molecular weight hyaluronic acid. For hair, combine with panthenol. More hydration actives are listed under actives.
Claims
Use tactile and visual wording: softer, smoother, more hydrated-feeling hair with more shine; hydrated, comfortable skin; softer-feeling beard.
Men's grooming opportunity
Beard care is a fast-growing category. A light beard lotion with the biopolymer offers moisture without the greasy feel of heavy oils, which suits men who dislike shine.
Testing
For hair, compare swatches for combing, shine and softness. For skin, use hydration measurements. Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C.
Range planning
A men's line could include a shampoo, a beard lotion and a face gel, all with the same biopolymer. A women's hair line could focus on curl care with a shampoo, leave-in and mask.
Sensory notes for hair
Hyaluronic ingredients can feel slightly tacky on hair if overdosed. Start with the level suggested on the CoA and test on swatches of different hair types. On curly hair, a slightly higher level may be welcome for definition; on fine straight hair, keep it lower so the roots stay light. Combine with a small amount of a light silicone or silicone alternative if more slip is needed.
