Description
DMAE 37% Bitartrate at a glance
DMAE 37% Bitartrate is a powder that dissolves in water. DMAE is dimethylaminoethanol, a small molecule closely related to choline. On its own it is a liquid with a strong amine odor and a high pH. Combined with tartaric acid as a bitartrate salt, it becomes a powder that is easier to weigh, smells less and is gentler on the formula pH. As the name says, about 37% of the salt weight is DMAE. The supplier specification lists serums and creams for mature skin, cosmetics for sensitive skin. Confirm assay and grade on the supplier CoA.
Why DMAE appears in skin care
DMAE became popular in skin care as an ingredient associated with a firmer, smoother-looking complexion. Brands often place it in serums and creams for mature skin alongside peptides, antioxidants and vitamins. Keep the wording cosmetic and describe the visible result rather than any action inside the skin.
Product formats
Firming serums
Water-based serums are a simple home. The salt dissolves cleanly and keeps the serum clear.
Creams for mature skin
Add it to the water phase of day and night creams with a firming-look story.
Sensitive-skin products
The supplier specification lists cosmetics for sensitive skin. Keep the rest of the formula short and fragrance-free.
After-sun care
The supplier specification lists. DMAE does not provide, which always depends on tested filters.
Processing
Dissolve the powder in water at room temperature. Because the salt contains an acid part, check the pH of the finished product and adjust it with a mild base if needed. Add it before thickeners that are sensitive to electrolytes, and watch viscosity, as salts can thin some gels.
Good partners
Peptides and antioxidants complete a firming-look serum. IO Hydration Serum Active Liquid fits the same story, and IO Brightening Antioxidant Active Liquid adds an antioxidant angle. See more firming-look ingredients in the actives catalog.
Testing
Measure pH and viscosity over time, and ask a panel to rate how firm and smooth the skin feels after a few weeks. Instrumental tests such as cutometer readings can support firmness claims.
Claims
Skin looks firmer and smoother; for a toned-looking complexion.
Characteristics
Form: powder. Solubility: water soluble. Content: about 37% DMAE in the bitartrate salt. Listed uses: serums and creams for mature skin, sensitive-skin cosmetics. Grade: supplier CoA.
Original recipe: firming-look gel serum, 100 g
Distilled water 89.00 g, glycerin 4.00 g, DMAE 37% bitartrate 3.00 g, sodium hyaluronate 0.30 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.80 g, panthenol 1.00 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1.00 g, sodium hydroxide solution 0.90 g. Disperse the cellulose in water, dissolve the DMAE salt and the other ingredients, then adjust the pH.
About the salt form
Free DMAE is alkaline and has a fishy amine smell. Converting it to a salt tames both problems. The tartrate part comes from tartaric acid, which occurs naturally in grapes. When calculating how much DMAE a formula delivers, multiply the salt amount by the share given on the CoA.
Lot records
Keep each CoA with the batch file and record the lot used.
Building a firming-look range
A firming-look collection could include a lightweight serum for morning, a richer night cream and a neck cream. DMAE fits all three because it dissolves in water and works well alongside peptides and plant extracts. Keep a consistent sensory profile across the line so users notice the shared technology. Packaging in airless pumps protects the antioxidants that often sit next to DMAE.
Sensitive-skin considerations
The supplier specification lists cosmetics for sensitive skin. For those products, keep the formula short, skip fragrance and essential oils and run a patch test on the final product. A neutral to mildly acidic pH helps keep the product comfortable. Note the batch and level used in every trial so results can be repeated.
Storage
Store closed in a dry place away from light. Close the container after use.
