Description

This ingredient at a glance

Astragalus, Atractylodes and Bupleurum Root Extract Blend is a glycerin-based botanical extract that mixes into water. Its INCI on the card is glycerin and the root extracts of Astragalus membranaceus, Atractylodes macrocephala and Bupleurum falcatum. These three roots have a long history in traditional Asian herbal practice, which gives the ingredient an appealing heritage story. The card lists anti-age cosmetics, masks for mature skin, eye creams for dark circles and brightening serums. Follow the supplier data sheet for the recommended level.

Three roots, one story

Astragalus root is one of the best-known plants of traditional Chinese herbal practice. Atractylodes and bupleurum roots are also classic members of that tradition. Combining them in one extract lets a brand tell a story of balance and vitality inspired by centuries of use, while the cosmetic claims stay focused on how skin looks and feels.

Product formats

Anti-age creams

Add the extract to the water phase of day and night creams for mature skin.

Masks

Masks for mature skin are listed. Cream masks and sheet mask essences both work well.

Eye creams

Eye creams for the look of dark circles are listed. Combine with caffeine or vitamin derivatives for a fuller eye story.

Brightening serums

Light serums for a radiant, even-looking complexion are a natural fit.

Processing

Add the extract to the water phase at cool-down, below 40 °C, and stir until uniform. Because it is glycerin-based, it mixes easily and adds to the humectant content of the formula, so you may reduce other glycerin slightly. Check the pH and preserve water-based products with a broad-spectrum system.

Good partners

Venuceane shares the anti-age story. Niacinamide supports brightening serums, and IO Hydration Serum Active Liquid adds a firming-look angle. Browse more plant ingredients in the botanical extracts catalog.

Testing

Check color and odor of the finished product over time, as botanical extracts can darken. Use image analysis or a panel to assess radiance and the look of dark circles.

Claims

Skin looks more radiant and youthful; the eye area looks brighter and more rested.

Heritage stories done well

Traditional plants make strong stories, but the claims must stay cosmetic. Mention the history of the roots, show the plants on the packaging and describe the product experience. Avoid suggesting that the extract has the effects attributed to the plants in traditional herbal practice.

Working with glycerin extracts

Glycerin is a gentle, food-grade solvent that keeps plant compounds stable without alcohol. Extracts made this way suit sensitive-skin products and alcohol-free ranges. They also count toward the total humectant content, which helps skin feel soft.

Range ideas

An eye gel, a mature-skin mask and an anti-age cream can share this ingredient for a coherent herbal appearance-focused cosmetic line.
