Description

ELAS TEIN 10 at a glance

ELAS TEIN 10 is a hydrolyzed elastin from TRI-K Industries, a US producer known for protein ingredients. Its INCI is Hydrolyzed Elastin. The liquid is pale yellow to yellow and dissolves fully in water. It is a versatile protein that works in face care, body care, hair care and nail care, and the supplier gives a detailed table of use levels for each format, from 2% in toners to 10% in nail and hair serums.

What elastin does

Elastin is the protein that lets skin stretch and spring back. Together with collagen it forms the support network of the skin. With age, sun exposure and time, this network loses its spring and skin looks less firm and more lined. Native elastin is insoluble and far too large to enter the skin. Hydrolysis breaks it into soluble peptides that form a smooth, flexible film on the surface. This film holds moisture, gives an immediate firmer and smoother feel and makes skin look more elastic. On hair the same film adds softness, slip and a conditioned feel.

Use levels by product

The supplier's table is a helpful guide. Creams for mature skin use 5 to 6%. Serums and masks use 8 to 10%, the highest level for face care. Aftershave gels and toners use 2 to 3%. Shampoos and shower gels use 5 to 6%. Serums for strengthening nails and hair use 10%. These levels refer to the ELAS TEIN 10 liquid as supplied.

How to formulate

Add the liquid to the water phase of a cold process product, or to an emulsion at cool-down below 40 °C. Proteins can darken and change odor with long heating, so late addition is best. Keep the final pH in a skin friendly range of about 5 to 6.5. In surfactant products, test compatibility with high levels of anionic surfactants on a small batch first. For a firming line, it pairs naturally with marine collagen for a complete support protein story and with hyaluronic acid for hydration. More protein and firming actives are listed in the cosmetic actives section.

Product ideas

Firming face creams, neck and decollete creams, firming serums, sheet and cream masks, toners, aftershave gels, conditioning shampoos, shower gels with a firming message, hair serums and nail strengthening serums are all good uses. The broad range of formats means one protein can cover a whole product line.

Sample recipe: elastin firming serum, 100 g

Distilled water 82.70 g, ELAS TEIN 10 8.00 g, glycerin 3.00 g, propanediol 3.00 g, sodium hyaluronate 0.30 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.50 g, panthenol 1.00 g, preservative 1.00 g, citric acid solution 0.50 g. Hydrate sodium hyaluronate and the cellulose in water, add glycerin, propanediol and panthenol, then add the elastin and the preservative below 40 °C and adjust to about pH 5.5.

Nail and hair care

Nail serums at 10% give a smoother, more flexible and stronger looking nail plate. Hair serums at the same level coat the fiber with a protein film that adds shine and reduces the look of split ends. Shampoos at 5 to 6% leave hair softer and easier to comb.

Labeling and claims

On the ingredient list it appears simply as Hydrolyzed Elastin. Claims should speak of skin that looks firmer and more elastic, a smoother feel, and softer, more conditioned hair. Simple sensory panels and before and after photos support these claims well.

Choosing between elastin products

Our catalog lists more than one elastin ingredient. ELAS TEIN 10 is a pure hydrolyzed elastin liquid with a clear single INCI. Blends that combine elastin with collagen in one material suit brands that want both proteins at a fixed ratio.

Storage

Store in a cool, dark place in a tightly closed container. A certificate of analysis comes with every lot.
